FAST AND MODIFIED - October 2005
Looks: The stunning woven cone is made from carbon and aramid Äbre and oozes style. It is criminal to hide these behind the supplied grills or in behind your door cards. These need to be out on display for everyone to see.
Construction: The woven Äbre cone is ultra light but also ultra strong which is the perfect recipe for fast, punchy speakers. The large strontium magnet is pretty weighty and also pretty big, so not ideal for small door cards but this is aided by the fact that in general this is one very slim speaker with a mounting depth of just under 6cm. The crossovers are nicely designed with a separate one for each the woofer and the tweeter. The design allows you to either run them off one channel per side, or if you have some spare channels you can bi-amp them for an improved sound. Tweeters can be either surface mounted or Åush mounted in your factory positions and feature a titanium dome.
Sound Quality: This is where they come into their own. JVC are not normally associated with high end sound quality, however these could certainly change this. The speakers we got our hands on are so new they aint even been ran in so we didn’t get the best out of them, but initial impressions are certainly more than favourable. The lightweight cone happily can keep up with fast paced dance music and can easily sidestep to some rock music and be just as at home. An excellent all round component for someone who listens to a wide range of music and not just one genre. Excellent imaging (even though to be honest the tweeter positions were less than favourable in the test car) and listening to our SQ test CD there are no nasty characteristics, just nice, lively midrange and sweet sounding treble without the harshness you can often get from cheaper components.
Bad Points: To be honest there aint any that we could Änd, which is rare! If you Änd one let us know!
Final Word: Excellent components, they look gorgeous and sound gorgeous too, all at a price which puts most other more expensive components to shame!
